What is sodium metasilicate pentahydrate
Sodium metasilicate pentahydrate is an inorganic compound with molecular formula H10Na2O8Si and molecular weight of 212.14, slightly green or white powder, transparent lump or viscous liquid. It is a non-toxic, odourless, harmless white powder or crystalline particles, easily soluble in water, insoluble in alcohol and acid, aqueous solution is alkaline, with descaling, emulsification, dispersion, wetting, permeability and buffering ability to PH value. It belongs to inorganic salt products, easy to absorb moisture and deliquesce in the air. It is used in super-concentrated washing powder, detergent, metal cleaning agent, washing agent in food industry, and also used in paper bleaching, cotton steaming, porcelain clay dispersion, etc.
The main role and use of sodium metasilicate pentahydrate is:
1.Detergent auxiliaries
Sodium metasilicate is convenient with other commonly used diluents such as soda ash, phosphate, sodium humate, etc. to blend into a dilution in line with the degumming agent, than a single degumming agent has better degumming properties. Sodium metasilicate pentahydrate has strong wetting, emulsification and saponification effects on fatty substances, with strong de-greasing performance, widely used in the configuration of various detergents, is the best substitute for sodium tripolyphosphate.
2.Metal surface treatment
Silicate in water will be hydrolysed, hydrolysis of silicic acid generated by insoluble in water, and suspended in the micelle structure in the tank solution, such solvent micelles on the solid dirt particles have the ability to suspend and dispersion of oil emulsification, and thus help to prevent the dirt in the surface of the workpiece redeposited. Silicate has a buffering effect.
That is, in the presence of acidic dirt, its PH value remains almost unchanged. Silicate can also form precipitation with high value metal ions in water, can remove iron salts in water, can also complex calcium and magnesium ions, in a certain sense, there is a softening effect of water. Silicate also has a corrosion-resistant effect, is a metal corrosion inhibitor, and thus non-ferrous metals, especially aluminium, zinc, tin and other parts of the alkaline cleaning agent almost all contain silicates.
3. Ceramic grinding aids
Pentahydrate Sodium metasilicate has a diluting effect is that it can increase the surface charge density of the mud in the colloid, thereby increasing the double layer and ξ potential, so that the repulsion between the particles increased; at the same time, sodium metasilicate contained in the silicate anion can be with the mud in the Ca2 +, Mg2 + harmful ions to generate insoluble substances to promote the exchange of Na +, so that the viscosity of the slurry is reduced, and the mobility is increased.
Especially suitable for ceramic slurry slurry forming additives.
4. Raw material of refractory agent, raw material of deinking agent, plasticity and water retention agent.
Among inorganic electrolytes, sodium metasilicate has the highest active alkalinity and PH buffer index, strong wetting, emulsification and saponification of fats and oils, excellent performance in removing, dispersing and suspending dirt, and preventing the redeposition of dirt. Sodium metasilicate has been applied to detergents for more than 40 years in foreign countries, and the application technology is relatively mature; it has been applied to detergents and many other industries in China for more than 20 years, and it is a mature chemical product, and it also has a mature and broad market. Sodium metasilicate has a large number of applications in detergents, ceramics, electroplating, textiles, printing and dyeing, paper making, cement, concrete, refractory materials, grease and leather processing and other industrial fields. At present, the order of industries with large application is: ceramics, industrial cleaning, detergents, concrete, printing and dyeing, papermaking, cement, petroleum extraction and so on.
